Midleton Dair Ghaelach Tree 9, is a triumph in the Irish Whiskey Industry, for one main reason, it uses virgin Irish oak casks. It is the first Irish Whiskey to use virgin Irish oak hogsheads. This expression is the latest from Midletons Pot Still family and it does not disappoint. The Midleton Dair Ghaelach range is a set of 9 trees which have been harvested from 130 year old oak trees from Grinsell's Wood, within the Ballaghtobin Estate in Co.Kilkenny. The whiskeys themselves have been matured in ex-bourbon barrels for 15-20 years old and then married with virgin Irish oak hogshead.

On the nose Midleton Dair Ghaelach Tree 9, has the aromas of woodland, as though you are walking through a forest yourself. There is hints of red berries, pineapple and coffee beans and combination that works in harmony to release a aroma that makes you want to take a sip (or the bottle). As for the palate there is the classic pot still spice that leads onto a creamy fudge like flavour and profile. There are undertones of a stewed apple pie with cloves and cinnamon which lasts until the end.
Jim Murray has awarded his Irish Whiskey of the year 2016 to Midleton Dair Ghaelach.
